Zhuoyi Intelligent Forklift recently completed a project delivery for a client in the European hardware industry. The solution deployed two man-up VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) forklifts alongside two high-level order pickers. By utilizing a "one-aisle, one-equipment" operational model, the system resolves the conflict between full-pallet handling and piece-picking, creating a replicable application model for overseas warehouses managing diverse SKUs.
The European client specializes in hardware distribution and warehousing, handling a vast array of SKUs. Their warehouse operations involved simultaneous high-volume full-pallet handling and frequent piece-picking for split-case orders. Their existing equipment setup led to operational conflicts: full-pallet handling and picking shared the same aisles, causing congestion. Coupled with high picking frequencies, the warehouse's operational efficiency could not keep pace with business growth. The client sought a solution that would allow for aisle zoning and independent equipment operation.
To address these operational pain points, the project implemented a zoned operation strategy. The warehouse's seven aisles were divided into two distinct zones: three aisles were designated for full-pallet storage, utilizing man-up VNA forklifts for pallet handling. These units feature a maximum lifting height of 18 meters and a 1.6-ton load capacity; the operator cabin rises and lowers in tandem with the forks, and the fork head rotates 180° in under 10 seconds, ensuring high efficiency for pallet intake and retrieval. The remaining four aisles were dedicated to picking, equipped with high-level order pickers that support bidirectional travel and allow operators to ride the platform directly to the storage location—perfectly suiting the need to pick diverse hardware items in small batches. The new equipment is compatible with the client's existing machinery from other brands; aisles operate independently without interference, resulting in an overall boost to warehouse operational efficiency.
