As global mineral development projects continue to advance, the Minim Martap bauxite mine in Cameroon has finalized orders for railway transport equipment. This move will complete the logistics corridor from the mine site to the port, facilitating the steady export of local bauxite.
The procurement was managed by the local company Camalco Cameroon and includes seven railway locomotives and 160 freight wagons dedicated to ore transport. The seven AC30 diesel locomotives—manufactured by CRRC Ziyang—feature a power output of approximately 3,300 horsepower. They have been specially adapted and optimized for Cameroon’s meter-gauge tracks, low axle-load standards, and hot tropical climate; all units successfully arrived in Cameroon this June.
The 160 accompanying freight wagons are being manufactured by India’s Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited and delivered in two batches: 60 wagons are expected to arrive at the Port of Douala in mid-August, with the remaining 100 arriving by the end of the third quarter. The project’s total wagon procurement amounts to 560 units. Once all locomotives are in place, the project team will conduct six to eight weeks of equipment commissioning, performance testing, and specialized operator training. Upon deployment of the full transport fleet, the monthly bauxite transport capacity will reach 35,000 tonnes.
Supporting infrastructure is advancing concurrently; the mine access road, inland railway transfer facilities, and the Port of Douala channel dredging project are all scheduled for completion by the end of the third quarter, with the project operator planning to officially launch bauxite exports in the fourth quarter.
To ensure the stable operation of the mineral transport trunk line, Canyon Cameroon plans to increase its stake in the local railway operator, Camrail, raising its shareholding from 9.1% to 26.9%. Camrail operates the core railway line connecting Yaoundé to the Port of Douala—a critical export route for the bauxite mine—and this equity adjustment will further streamline the logistics chain for mineral exports. Driven by the sustained demand for railway equipment, heavy-duty trucks, and construction machinery in overseas mining and infrastructure projects, the company leverages years of practical international trade experience and deep expertise in the heavy equipment sector. It offers one-stop procurement solutions for global projects, efficiently managing the entire process—from handling inquiries and finalizing contracts to executing cross-border exports.
